What is IconViewer?

IconViewer is a free utility which runs under Microsoft Windows
95, 98, NT 4.0, and 2000. It is an add-on for Windows Explorer
which allows you to view the icons in a file through its property
sheet.

What is new in IconViewer 1.1?

Version 1.1 fixes several bugs in IconViewer 1.0 which prevented
it from running properly on several systems. IconViewer 1.1 now
displays a list of not only the icons in a file, but also the
device images for each icon (in 32-bit files only).

Installation

To install IconViewer, first extract the files from ICONVIEW.ZIP
to any folder. Then, right-click ICONVIEW.INF and select the
Install option from the menu. If, during installation, you are
asked to locate the file ICONVIEW.DLL, simply browse to the
folder you have extracted it to. After the process is finished,
you can safely delete the files you just extracted.

Using IconViewer

To use IconViewer, open a file's property sheet from Windows
Explorer by right-clicking on a file and selecting Properties.
If the file you selected contains any icons, an Icons tab will
be created. Click on the Icons tab to view the icons that the
file contains.

When viewing 32-bit files, IconViewer will let you view the device
images of an icon. For example, many icons come in 32x32 and 16x16
pixel dimensions. Select a device image from the list to display
the icon to the right of the list.

Icons can be found as resources in many Windows file types. These
include, but are not limited to, files of the following types:
  EXE (Application)
  DLL (Application extension)
  OCX (ActiveX control)
  CPL (Control Panel applet)
  ICO (Icon file)

Uninstallation

To uninstall IconViewer, you must not have accessed any file's
property sheet since you last started Windows, or else the files
will not be deleted properly. If necessary, restart Windows before
uninstalling IconViewer. To uninstall, open the Control Panel's
Add/Remove programs applet, select IconViewer from the list, and
click Add/Remove.
