A Java^TM 2, Micro Edition platform (Java ME^TM Platform), Conected Device Configuration application is an application targeted for mobile devices such as high end mobile phones, PDAs, and two-way pagers. Such applications conform to Connected Device Configuration with set of profiles e.g. Personal Basis Profile, Personal Profile and AGUI.

A CDC application typically consists of:

• A Java Archive (JAR) file. This contains:
  • Java class with main method, Applet or one or more Xlets.
  • Java classes.
  • Resource files used by the Application (for example, image files).
  • A manifest file describing the JAR contents.
• A deployment file:
  • For Sony Ericsson phones SIS (Symbian Installation System) file with additional information such as VM and application arguments, application icon and other resources.
  • For Nokia S80 phones Jar file with special attributes included in manifest.
